Day 21

"Food is an important part of a balanced diet." -- Fran Lebowitz

It's kinda funny. I make sure my kids eat right and our dinners are pretty well balanced, but probably overall, my own daily diet is not that great.
  • I pretty much skip breakfast (just coffee and maybe a small sweet or the odd piece of fruit). I know, I know -- breakfast is the most important part of the day -- but it is a habit I have had since High School and one I have tried to break more than once.
  • I do much better with lunch -- several months ago I started to juice (thanks to a friend). I have grown to really like it. Probably 5 out of 7 days a week, I juice some fruit and veg for lunch. I pair the juice with some leftovers, salad or sandwich. Overall generally healthy. I have noticed that on days I juice I tend to not to crave afternoon snacks -- I have no idea why -- maybe just that boost of vitamins or maybe it is just in my mind -- either way, it helps me be more healthy.
  • I try not to snack and most days I achieve that goal. I used to drink a daily Dr Pepper, but have given that up (6 months now) and feel much better for it. Oh still I have the occasional Dr. P -- but I do not have that daily dependence on it I once had. My snacking downfalls are Cool Ranch Doritos dipped in Sour Cream -- I can't even have them in the house! I also love Girls Scout Tag-Alongs -- that oh so creamy peanut butter -- thank goodness they come only once a year!
  • Dinner - well I make dinner and I must say that I cook what I like to eat. The meals themselves are pretty well balanced, just too yummy, so, more often than not, I eat too much! Oh well, I guess that is why I go to the gym -- so that I can eat what I want, when I want -- in moderation of course :)
