Day 16

"You, whose day it is, get out your rainbow colors and make it beautiful." -- Traditional Nootka Song
My husband tends our garden. Every winter he plants several pots full of these colorful flowers and then deposits the pots throughout the front and back yards. He takes very good care of them -- waters them individually, covers them when there might be frost, and discourages the kids from picking the flowers (a hard task). The flower pots provide a wonderful pop of color on a backdrop of desert browns and greens. They are a little cheerful rainbow that welcomes me home when I drive up. I will miss them when summer comes and gets too hot for them to survive -- but maybe their fleeting splendor makes them even more beautiful.
